Optimal Binary Trees with Order Constraints
Given a sequence of numbers ul,. ,a,,, find a binary tree with q leaves minimizing max{/l, + (II,. , II,, + u, }, where h, is the distance from the ith leaf to the root, i = I, , q. This problem is solved by means of a O(q) algorithm and a tight upper bound for the minimum is given by an explicit formula. The task is equivalent to finding a binary tree of minimum height having y subtrees of hei...
متن کاملOptimal Binary Search Trees
An optimal binary search tree is a binary search tree for which the nodes are arranged on levels such that the tree cost is minimum. For the purpose of a better presentation of optimal binary search trees, we will consider “extended binary search trees”, which have the keys stored at their internal nodes. Suppose “n” keys k1, k2, ... , k n are stored at the internal nodes of a binary search tre...
متن کاملOn Optimal Binary Search Trees
We present a new linear time heuristic for constructing binary search trees. The analysis of the algorithm, by establishing an upper bound on the cost of the produced binary search trees, permits to derive a limitation on the cost of optimal binary search trees. The obtained upper bound improve on previous results.
متن کاملOptimal Control with Fuzzy Chance Constraints
In this paper, a model of an optimal control problem with chance constraints is introduced. The parametersof the constraints are fuzzy, random or fuzzy random variables. Todefuzzify the constraints, we consider possibility levels. Bychance-constrained programming the chance constraints are converted to crisp constraints which are neither fuzzy nor stochastic and then the resulting classical op...
متن کاملBinary Trees and (Maximal) Order Types
Concerning the set of rooted binary trees, one shows that Higman’s Lemma and Dershowitz’s recursive path ordering can be used for the decision of its maximal order type according to the homeomorphic embedding relation as well as of the order type according to its canonical linearization, well-known in proof theory as the Feferman-Schütte notation system without terms for addition. This will be ...
